As part of the UFO Smackdown challenge, I set myself a goal for January to FINISH the ASJ.
I have absolutely LOVED the process of this sweater, made from local sheep, handdyed by someone I know with INDIGO....sigh.
Without further ado, may I present....
The Adult Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman, mods from the Opinionated Knitter.
I love the PRODUCT, almost as much as the PROCESS.

Chores still have to be done on the Farm, and with the temperature predicted to be down near 10 degrees F tomorrow night, there is sure to be ICE! Heaters were set up, RV antifreeze put into the traps, and pictures taken of the five inches of snow....
So Pretty....but windy and bitter cold out there!! Wrapped in several layers of handknits and thrilled to discover the Angora Mitts are warm and functional, I worked as quickly as I could. I was glad to see very few other drivers on the road. Back home now, glad to have power and hot coffee and my knitting. Still on track to finish the ASJ in January. Pictures of the finished project tonight or tomorrow, as promised.
The Poodles absolutely LOVE the snow and want to stay out and PLAY all day...
I am so glad their haircuts are scheduled for NEXT week!

The Angora mitts are finished, and just in time!
Twenty degrees this morning and ICE predicted for the weekend.
You might notice that they don't MATCH, exactly.
In keeping with my resolution to care less about such trivialities, let me just say that they are fabulously warm, allow me to use my iphone without removing (and losing) my gloves and...
I think they are lovely.
Onward with the progress on the ASJ...I'm seaming up the sleeves today, which just leaves the front/button bands. I fully intend to meet my goal of finishing it before January ends on Sunday!

I was recently delighted to discover that I had won a PRIZE!
The package arrived and I waited until I had a moment to myself....
and OH!
beautiful ART cards from Papaya! (a FAVE of mine!)
with words I so needed to read right now....
and then, the BOOK!
so incredibly lovely....
I cannot wait to share it with my Daughter bird...who will KNOW so many more of the buildings and the orientation of the views than I do...
but I was absolutely thrilled to tears to discover THIS view
from the room where so many of his cherished books were written, including one of my All TIme FAVORITES...Uncle Tungsten.

I have a dream...that someday we will not be judged....
so I am here today to show you that I have knitted a fish.
It is the fish hat from knitty....but it isn't meant to be worn as headgear.
I just knitted it because I wanted to. It makes me giggle.
Life is short and LOVE is large.

I am on track to finish this sweater in January!
As a recovering *cough* perfectionist, it is against my nature to post this picture and continue on this project...but that is my quest for this decade ahead...to continue ONWARD, regardless of the imperfections and minor flaws.
This sweater is locally grown, locally spun, locally hand dyed and HAND knit. It isn't supposed to look like it was made by a machine or a factory. The design has lasted nearly 30 years and is still practical. Timeless, even. Dare I call it a CLASSIC?
It will keep me WARM when I wear it, and I will have the satisfaction of useful, productive work.
So may it be.

I don't understand why sleeves seem to take SO much longer to knit than anything else!
I am determined to finish this sweater in January.
So many lovely patterns calling out to be started (as is ALWAYS the case in the home stretch of any project...) but I want to set a new routine in place and not fall back into the same old habits.

I've been reading some fascinating things about creativity and this year I plan to put the ideas into ACTION instead of just thinking about them....

As part of my resolve to finish what I've started...here's the sleevage on the ASJ.
The glaring *error* which results in that very noticeable dark stripe right at the elbow join shall henceforth be referred to as a *design feature*. There will be another, identical error design feature on the other sleeve, and I think I shall add matching hems...Symmetry sometimes makes it all.better.
Among my other resolves; the Morning pages have been done, Project 365 photos taken and uploaded, I've been out for a jog....and now I am going to a Museum! A grown up lunch with a wonderful friend and neighbor...YES!

Never mind that the weather is in the teens....a friend of mine posted 33 below zero windchill temps this morning. I am duly humbled.

I've resolved many things for 2010. Morning pages, Project 365 photos, more follow through in general. Joined the knitting UFO Smackdown group. My goal for January is to finish the ASJ.
I stalled at the *lengthening the sleeves* portion of the directions.
which requires the superpower reading glasses and the picking up of *purl bumps*.
