All I wanted to do was send a two page fax....
Yesterday *Mbark* was scheduled to arrive between 11am and 1pm
to install the FAX line.
At noon they called to say their technician could not locate BEE Happy Farm
on the map. NO SUCH ADDRESS.
sigh.
There had been *explicit* directions left when the order was placed,
including the phrase..."at the end of the PAVED road, look for a RED building".
Several calls back and forth to the dispatch office (which turns out NOT to be at all local)
and the technician resulted in an *unavoidable* delay.
At 2pm the *Mbark* truck drove right past the red building.
I had to run outside and flag him down before he drove out into the FIELD.
He made some snarky comment about how my farm was not making HIM
at ALL happy....
sigh.
Two hours later the line was run from the pole, the hole was drilled in the floor,
and the jack was in place.
I was thrilled when a friend drove up in a big ole truck and said
"Are they STILL here?"
causing the technician to hurry and EXIT, stage right.
It was time for me to leave for an appointment, so I decided the FAX
was going to have to wait until TODAY.
(Total elapsed time so far, six hours)
This morning I got up bright and early, walked the doggies, had breakfast and
COFFEE, and headed out to the big box store to purchase
a) a speakerphone
b) OFFICE for Mac
c) printer ink
and
d) a phone jack adapter so I can use the phone AND the FAX machine.
Purchases were completed and I was at the FARM by 8AM.
Step One...unpack phone and discover that I need 4 AA batteries.
Step Two...load Office for mac CD into laptop, return to store to get batteries.
Step Three...remove all files from old version of Office and empty trash.
KNIT several rows on therapy project while WAITING for trash to empty.
Step Four....set up phone and plug in. Get dial tone. Do Happy Dance.
Step Five...Unpack FAX machine.
Step Six...install print heads and ink cartridges, load paper.
Step Seven....Finish install of OFFICE, open word document to be FAXED.
Step Eight...Install FAX printer drivers. Hold breath.
KNIT several more rows on therapy project. Decide breathing is a good thing.
Step Nine...plug in FAX machine to phone jack, do test, FAIL.
KNIT several more rows during diagnostics...
Step TEN...successful test run.
Step ELEVEN....Actually send FAX.
Total elapsed time TODAY, four hours...
It took TEN hours to send the FAX. I could have driven to the destination in under
half an hour and hand delivered the silly thing...
Ah,modern technology....
such a TIME saver.
xox
The Good News? (because if you know me at ALL, you know I am all ABOUT the Good News....)
I can now read, edit, and FAX Word documents.
yip.pee.
I think I'll go check on the tomatoes.
and KNIT some more.
