Knowing when to stop!
I'm knitting this as a demo
for my Wednesday morning sock class....
and I used my handy dandy Visual Aid socks
as a comparison of sorts.....
this week we will be doing the toe decreases
and KITCHENER stitch.
K is also for Knitblogger trading cards.
I've received some interested emails
and so I think I'll go ahead and set
the parameters for the project.
Let's use the postcard format
(so as not to confuse them with Artist Trading Cards)
and agree that to get a card,
you must also give one.
The ideal situation is to exchange them in person
when meeting another knitblogger,
but so as not to be exclusionary,
I see no reason why the swap couldn't be done by
mail (you might collect some interesting stamps and such
as a bonus!)
as long as both parties agree.
The cards should be signed and dated,
with a link to your blog on the back.
If you are doing a limited series
(as I plan to with the first group)
please number them accordingly.
As is stated on the Artist Trading Card sites,
these are to be traded,
not sold.
K?
Now, for the vision update.
I went to get the special lens yesterday
and it took them three tries to get it IN,
but it wasn't nearly as annoying or irritating as I had prepared myself for....
Then I got to sit and KNIT for 20 minutes while my eye got used to it.
Erm, not so much.
The lens kept moving around my eye
and when it WAS in the right place,
I could see better than without,
but still nowhere NEAR
20/20.
sigh.
The doctor assured me that this process takes time,
but we were both encouraged at the improvement.
Then he asked me if I wanted to wear it home for the weekend
and practice taking it out and putting it in, etc.
FOR SOME REASON
I said, NO, maybe I'll come back on Monday
and try again.
I almost didn't say it, because it made no sense to me...
but I KNOW better than to go against my intuition.
Well.
I went out to the contact lens fitter, and he said
he would just pop it out with his little suction cup dealy
and then we could practice with it on Monday morning.
He tried four times.
He AND his assistant tried.
I could SEE the suction cup grab the lens
(this was SO odd)
but my eye would not let it go.
I started giggling.
They kept trying.
Finally they had to take me back to the
Corneal Specialist
who removed it
with some difficulty.
sigh.
No residual pain or irritation,
but now I'm not so excited
about going back
on Monday.
Cast on and started the Olympic PI shawl...
weren't those shots of the Alps
breathtaking?
I loved the acrobats
forming the Dove of Peace
and I do hope everyone watching
joined in Yoko Ono's
THINK OF PEACE
moment.
Let the GAMES begin!

Juicy Mystery
This is the scene, all over town.
Juice, and plenty of it,
but NONE by THIS producer
even though their organic Milk, butter, and other products
are in their regular places.
I've checked all of my usual suppliers
and NOBODY seems to know what's up
with the lack of Organic Orange Juice.
I figured the Knitblogging world
might have a clue.
The Boybird and I went shopping yesterday
after eating at the Golden Corral.
He loves Thursdays at the Corral,
cuz it's BBQ night
which means they cook
*to order*
on the big ole grill.
Flames, and lots of them, are what HE likes.
We get a front row seat and
watch the grillmeister.
The Boybird chows down on Fried Chicken
and yeast rolls,
applauding wildly when the flames
shoot up above the grill guard.
We're easily amused,
you know.
Adults avoid us and avert their eyes,
but children *get it* right away
and start cheering, too.
I'm SUCH a bad influence.
heh.heh.
I see by my Yarn Harlot Watch that it is
Just about time for the Games to begin....
my Jaggerspun Zephyr is all
warmed up and ready to go.
Hope your weekend is filled with JOY
and Olympic Knitting!

I had this IDEA at last year's MSWF
that it would be fun to swap
KnitBlogger Trading Cards...
and collect memories
of sorts.
I thought it would be cool
to make a limited run
of small art pieces
(postcard size perhaps?)
and swap them with other
New (no longer Imaginary) Friends....
with a link to your blog on the back.
It is almost a year later
and I'm STILL thinking
it is an IDEA worth pursuing....
IS IT?
email me if you'd like to participate
either in person at MSWF 2006
or through the Mail
if you are unable to attend.
I is also for Iris...
in this case,
reticulata...
IMAGINATION is more IMPORTANT than Knowledge.

I should know better....
but since I often
*let* the stylist talk me into something
I'm not quite sure I WANT...
(Long layers are fine if you have the time
and/or the Inclination
to Fuss Over Them and make them FLUFFY.
I was very FLUFFY when I left the salon,
but not so much in my Real Life, where drying my hair
usually consists of walking the dogs Quickly after playing
Tug of War with the TOWEL.)
sigh.
I'm HAPPY
I know how to knit HATS
with HANDSPUN!
One skein of Biggy Wool+One skein of Handspun Curly Locks+size 11US needles
and One Afternoon=The FlapHappy HAT!
Another one of the uber talented employees of the LYS
where I teach (Yarns Etc)
designed this pattern...
Innit CUTE?

This time of year,
my eyes are craving Green....
any sign of new GROWTH
just makes me GRIN.
Only a few more days until the Olympics begin!
Isn't it just amazing that there are more Knitters
participating than Athletes in Turino?
I'm resisting the urge to cast on
even a moment before the Olympic flame is lit....
but the trial shawl in Cashsoft
is teaching me a LOT about what motifs to use (or NOT!)
when I attempt to design my own
Pi.
Once again, I am humbled by Elizabeth Zimmerman
and her *unventions*.

Escalators and Elevators....
Yesterday was the monthly Epic Journey
to the mall
with the Boybird.
First stop,
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Fresh from the oven....
Then we ride up TWO flights on the escalator
until we get to the Food Court
where we practice Ordering Food and Waiting for it to be Prepared.
Then we
EAT!

DONE!
When the Birthday Girl opens it today, I hope she thinks it is CUTE!
I used the pattern from the Kids Crochet book....
and boy HOWDY did I need the simple tutorials,
it has been WAY too long since I crocheted anything!
The base is Kool Wool in Duke Blue,
the frosting is Angora in natural bunny,
and the beads are *assorted* size 5.
They kinda look like SPRINKLES, don't they?
I weighted the bottom with flat glass marbles
and filled the top with fleece from last year's MSWF.
Not sure how it will work as a Pincushion (the Intended Function)
but hopefully it will brighten her Sewing Space.
Happy Birthday, Maggie!
