The Daughter bird called from College yesterday
on the cell phone
to say she had registered for classes
and bought her books for the Spring Semester
even though ALL of the books weren't in yet.
I felt the tears
beginning to well up...
Let's break this down,
shall we (?)
and COUNT the BLESSINGS!
(1) She managed to negotiate the registration process
BY HERSELF for the first time.
This involves
a) going to various offices around campus
to be sure all of your thing are in order
b) waiting in long lines
c) sometimes having to go BACK and wait in the same lines AGAIN
for no apparent reason
(sigh)
did I mention she managed this BY HERSELF?
without even a single *hey MOM?* cell phone call?
2) once all of the clearances have been stamped, you
have to have your student ID reissued
3) this means waiting in a long line to have your picture taken
AGAIN and getting another identical card to the one you already have
which is NOT Logical and therefore a source (previously) of
Great Stress.
4) She bought her books even though they weren't ALL in yet.
I'm not sure I could break this down.
This is just a HUGE stress for her.
She wants ALL of her books.
Classes begin tomorrow.
5) She wrote a CHECK for her books.
and called me with the exact amount so I could record it in my ledger.
AS IF I would actually balance my checkbook.
Ahem.
a) she did not lose the check
b) she did not panic and write the wrong amount in the wrong place
because she didn't process the amount correctly when it was told to her
in a stressfull situation with lots of ambient noise and lots of other students
waiting to buy THEIR books.
c) she did not call me to ask if she should wait until all of the books were in
before writing the check.
She SIMPLY wrote a check for her books, called me on the cell phone to tell me how much they
were, and asked if I could order the *late* textbook on the Internet.
wow.
pinch.pinch.pinch.
ow.
Yep, awake!
WOW!
Pictures tomorrow of the finished felted kitty bed
(if it EVER dries!)
Namaste.
