Square One

I'm sending this off to Annie today....

Spent the weekend walking the floor and cuddling with Carson, who has been to the vet THREE times already (two more Specialist appointments scheduled for this week) and is on prednisone for his back pain. Poor sweet doggie. I just wish he could TELL me exactly where it hurts so I could help him!
There was a really difficult moment on Saturday when he went all stiff and glassy eyed and it took a couple of minutes to get him to respond....sigh.
I knew when I rescued him that he had Special Needs, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep him as comfortable as possible. I have some FABULOUS, wonderful veterinary resources who I am most grateful for. It is almost certainly a disc/pinched spinal nerve issue, as we have ruled out displaysia or dislocation with xrays, and the blood work for kidney or liver problems came back *normal*. Not knowing much about his history makes it difficult to establish a baseline for how it all started....but the best thing for him has been lots of attention and LOVE.
I finished the Harry Potter book and the second front of the Racey Lacey sweater....
both of which were THOROUGHLY enjoyable.

Just Thinking

I'm in a pensive mood, thinking about Kerstin and her family....hoping our little project
will in some way ease their grief and let them know we are thinking of them.

The Monkee is ready to be gifted to my neighbors...
Their daughter is expecting a baby in September.
She's in her late forties...waited a LONG time for this baby!
They are all very excited and I wanted to knit something
FUN.

The Grandma to be is AMAZING...she runs a LOVELY vintage and antique store in town,
drives a cute little RED punchbuggy and has a cairn terrier named Mr. Smithers
who just cracks me up. I hope I have half her energy and enthusiasm when I am her age.
She reminds me SO much of my own Grandmother...stylish, fun, always doing something for
somebody!

It's a MONKEE!

well, almost.
Just a little embroidery and some stuffing....
stayed tuned tomorrow for tree pictures!

So this afternoon we went with the boybird to Barnes and Noble
and Bruegger's for bagels...
I secretly wanted to get a taste of the Green Tea Frappachino
at the *instore* Starbucks...
yummy!

It was a hot and steamy afternoon, so as we piled into the mommymobile,
I offerred the kiddos some of my delicious treat...
*NO,NO!* they both shouted..
*We will not eat it Sam I am...We will not eat GREEN...*
This was followed by the REQUIRED
(see echolalia in the dictionary if you are not familiar with this behavior)
recitation of the ENTIRE book,
word for word
OVER and OVER and OVER
until we got back to the boybird's nest.

sigh.

I was slurping too loud to chime in.

Monkey mind

Honestly, I am just so embarassed!
I'm knitting the monkey from Simply knitting magazine...
and I made some comment on somebody's blog about how I LOVE the
magazine but the directions for the arms and legs seemed to have been left off
the pattern pages....

UM.

I just showed my friend WHAT all those pieces of brown and cream
alpaca were going to BECOME...
flipped back to the bigger picture on the preceding page and,,,

YEP.

Arms and Legs.
Begin at the beginning...

Sheesh.

Racey Lacey

I decided we needed a little cheering up...
so we had lunch with the race shop boys.

Here's the Knitting, reclining gracefully on some
nice cool diamond plate....

Just the thing for a STEAMY summer afternoon.
The Knitting was a little hotter than I was...
just LOOK who she was Hanging Out with...

while I was washing my hands!

It makes me feel that all is right with the world when I can eat lunch with
the guys in the shop. Real MEN, who can Fix Things, always make me miss
my Daddy.

The Knitting, after all that excitement,
was TIRED

and ready to go home.

It's ALARMING

how unrealistic I tend to be.
It doesn't seem all that long ago that I could fill up my
gas tank for five bucks
(okay, my Mother's gas tank)
and drive to the beach by myself.
No car alarm, no cell phone,
no worries.
I wish my children
(and yours) could still ride
off on their bikes and play *outside*
all day all summer.

I made all the phone calls yesterday
so now we'll have 24/7 monitoring for
fire/carbon monoxide/burglary/etcetal.

sigh. I don't LIKE to be monitored.
Realistically though,
if I have to be,
I'd rather the ADT folks were watching me
instead of the thugs.

Who,as the sheriff pointed out,
are looking for jewelry and drugs....
not YARN.

I'm sure he was trying to make me feel
more secure, but really, I had bad dreams last night about
Cashmere theives.

Perhaps a trip to the beach
without my cell phone is just what I need
after all.

Too much for me....

We had a rash of breakins in our sleepy little neighborhood....
nobody was hurt, thank God, but
the Sheriff was just here to let me know
the Poodles probably kept me off the List.
*A dog who barks, no matter how small, is an excellent deterrent*
Still, he's advising us all
to be vigilant.
I just burst into tears.

I don't WANT an alarm system,
but I'm considering one.

The poodles may bark,
but that doesn't summon the
Sheriff.

Anybody have a GOOD

they raced....

I'm just spinning my wheels, here.

Trying to cope with senseless acts of violence,
not wanting to validate them with further attention,
I just don't know what to DO
or SAY.
