Today is the 9th birthday of one of my favorite People on the Planet!
I am proud to say that in addition to being Smart,
Adorable, and Full of Wonder,
she knows how to KNIT!
Last year, when we went on our train trip,
I knit her a mobius scarf
for her birthday,
and when I gave it to her...
out poured the QUESTIONS:
Wow...so it like, has an edge, but no inside or outside,
KEWL!
What's it called again?
Is it like crochet?
I want to learn to do this,
can you TEACH me?
Where can I get more of this
soft, fluffy stuff?
Can I stay overnight?
When can I come stay at
YOUR house?
How does Daughter do those
puzzle books so FAST?
SO I gifted her with some Lantern Moon needles
and some cashmere
from my suitcase
and we sat in the hotel room
with the Pacific Ocean and the Boardwalk
just outside...
and she took to it
RIGHT away.
Right now she's totally into horses
and gymnastics
and she's having a Pool Party
to celebrate
with her friends....
but I hope someday
she'll be a Real
Knitter, and pass it along to
another young Friend....or
her own daughters.
Love ya, Nic!
Happiest of Birthdays...wish I was there to
swim and sing and eat CAKE and ice cream....
MWAH!
Girls and horses, oh yeah. Happy Birthday, Nic! (I hope you grow up to be a Real Knitter, too.)

Your train trip was a year ago???? Cough, cough, splutter, splutter... impossible, though I know exactly how possible and probable it is. A year? Wow. Happy Birthday Nic!

Lucky lucky girl! No Susan Bates and Red Heart (though they do have their place!) for her for her first knitting. And thanks for reminding me that I have the treasury of magical knitting and want very much to make something from there. :)
