Tasha died yesterday. She was a faithful companion, a loyal friend, and brave right up to the end. She outlived all of the experts' prognosticating, but the brain tumor finally won.
There will be a new puppy, as I cannot bear to be without a dog...but please forgive me if I am not answering emails or the phone for a few days. I have some serious grieving to do, and a Life to Celebrate.
I'm so sorry to hear about Tasha -- sending you virtual hugs!

Goodbye Tasha-dog, I'm sorry that I never met you in person. You'll be remembered at my house.
Oh poor Greta. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sitting here crying for a dog I knew through your writing. Things like this are so hard. I'm glad you and Tasha and Daughter Bird were able to have longer together than those "experts" forecasted.
I'll leave you with this quote that was in someone's signature in email yesterday:
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in
a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW--What a
Ride!"

Oh Greta (((((((((HUGS))))))))).....I agree with you on the puppy. James Herriot said in one of his books he believed the best way to get over the loss of a dog was to go out as soon as you can face it and get a new puppy.
When I had to have my 12 yr old Lab/pointer cross put down I went out within 4 weeks and got my Rat Terrier puppy even though we still had another dog. When her companion (my rescued Dalmatian)becam senile a year leater and had to be put down I found a Rat Terrier rescue group and took in a very "Charlie Brown" looking , 2 yr old male Rat Terrier the next breed size up from my little girl. He came to us through a Tennessee shelter to Arkansas rescue coordinator to a foster home in Michigan (several months in foster) and we drove and picked him up in Windsor....very kind people from various rescue groups took the parts of the route and the last leg of the doggie rescue railroad to a his forever home was with us from Windsor to Hamilton Ontario to our home.He is the ugliest Rat Terrier but the most lovely, puddle leaving, book chewing bundle of love around.
Love and hugs to you and daughter bird durring your grieving time.

Greta, my stomach crumbled when I saw the post. I'm so sorry. I, like some of the posters above, felt as if I had been given a glimpse into Tasha's life by your writing. What a wonderful life you shared. Big hug to you.

Oh honey, I'm so sorry. I know you are the type of soul who is deeply attached to the creatures we care for, and I know the hurt runs deep. Take the time to be gentle to yourself and honor Tasha's memory.

Oh, Greta, hugs to you and daughter bird. I read this quote on another knitter's comments (forgive me for not remembering who, if anyone knows, please say) re: the death of her sister's kitty. I think it's so for doggies, too:
"My heart has joined the Thousand for my friend stopped running today." Richard Adams, Watership Down.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I am going to walk the Snoopy labyrinth at the Schulz museum today. I think it's fitting.
I'll be sending you many prayers from the center.

Greta - I'm so sad to hear about your dear dog. The best thing about dogs is that they make great angels. I lost a sweet beagle about ten years ago and the thought of her as an angel was the one thing that got me through the sadness of the loss.
