Danger Girl and I went to the music store yesterday before I could panic and talk her out of it. We strolled right in and said "May I hold that violin?" The gorgeous, rosewood, concert quality violin. It began to sing to me before I even crossed the wooden floor to gaze at it in the glass case. When the young woman (who not coincidentally is the fabulous One who helped my son pick out his Drum of healing...) pulled it from the velvet display, we all sighed. I held it carefully by the neck (Never hold a violin by anything but the unvarnished neck...where did THAT voice come from? Oh, hey Daddy.) and lifted it under my chin. My head tilted ever so slightly and my fingers curved against the strings. My eyes closed. Such a lovely, sweet caress. Without knowing, I moved my left hand to touch the notes of Clare de Lune. The echo of the strings resonated from somewhere long ago. I dared not pick up the bow. Not this time.
I handed the violin back to the young woman. "Anything else you'd like to hold?" she asked gently. "Well, not unless you have any classical or flamenco guitars....but I don't think I'm ready for that today." She nodded. "We don't have a single one in stock" she said, "which is odd, because we usually...." she looked at me carefully. "Oh." she got sort of teary, and pretended to have something Really Important TO DO with the papers by the telephone. Without looking at me she said very quietly. "When you are ready, please come back and play that violin. I'd love to hear your music."
Where are YOU going on your Date? Hmmmmm?
This is Danger Girl, reporting live from the Discovery Channel.
Your post yesterday found me crying with the joy and wonder you expressed so clearly not only that but for a moment I touched the magic too. Today I found myself laughing out loud with delight, delight in your delight and discovery. Life is such an amazing adventure eh!
