We are Safe and Sound. She was AWESOME, that Isabel. We have a major clean up Operation underway, but power is back and Life goes on.
In my haste to Post and Email before battening down the hatches and powering down, I sent the wrong reply to the esteemed designer of Sonnet. She graciously pretended not to notice and has agreed to host the Sonnet-a-thon. I had three emails, all about this same possibility. We are smitten with Sonnet....Check out the Domestic Sphere blog for updates.
I leave you this morning with one of my personal faves, sonnet and otherwise.
In An Artist's StudioOne face looks out from all his canvases,
One selfsame figure sits or walks or leans:
We found her hidden just behind those screens,
That mirror gave back all her loveliness.
A queen in opal or in ruby dress,
A nameless girl in freshest summer-greens,
A saint, an angel-every canvas means
The same one meaning, neither more or less.
He feeds upon her face by day and night,
And she with true kind eyes looks back on him,
Fair as the moon and joyful as the light:
Not wan with wanting, not with sorrow dim;
Not as she is, but was when hope shone bright;
Not as she is, but as she fills his dream.Christina Rosetti (1830-1894)
I must be off and away, on my daily Quest.
Tonight I shall post the story of HOW Danger Girl got her name.
Stay tuned.

I wonder if that poem was about Elizabeth Siddal, Christina's brother Dante's wife/muse. I understand Elizabeth suffered quite a bit while posing for Dante. For his famous painting of drowned Ophelia she had to lie in the bath for ages and ages, and I don't think the bath was very warm...

one of the reasons I LOVE this sonnet is because the "model" in question, is herself a woman PAINTER and poet....
