Bee Happy Farm

The dream is becoming a reality!

12 years ago I decided to go back to school to get a degree in Art Therapy

so that I could give back to the system that did so much for MY kids.

I studied Horticulture, dreamed of emulating the Enabling Garden in Chicago,

got my Master Gardener Certification and just kept plugging away. 

 Today I am asking for your help.

I need to raise the money to do the plumbing and electric service out at the Farm.

I've had the folks out to do a walk through and they will have an estimate

for me this week.

Once those projects are completed, there will be restrooms

(handicap accessible, of course)

running water, eye wash stations, electricity and internet access.

Everything I need to have the first Open House!

I cannot tell you how exciting it is to be *this* close to realizing the DREAM.

The Spine Doctor says....

No Stitches South or MSWF for me this year.
No long drives, no standing for long periods on hard surfaces,
no walking on uneven surfaces or climbing stairs for a LEAST six weeks.
In the meantime, I have the newest, latest, greatest TENS device
here at home, and a prescription for more TENS therapy and ultrasound at PT
and THEN he wants to do an MRI after that.
sigh.
Those of you who have been reading a long time will remember that the TENS
device was pivotal to my complete recovery from the toxic neuropathy associated with the
black widow spider bite....so I'm a big fan of the alternative to steroids and painkillers and
more expensive tests.
This time it is my sacroiliac joint, injured in a fall,
that is causing all of the nerve pain and numbness in my legs and feet.
I can still go to work and knit of course,
and no surgery has been scheduled,
so all in all I'm delighted.
I celebrated EARTH Day by marveling at the gale force winds while the pups and I
were out for a walk...
wow. That's some POWERFUL force!

The Aftermath.

Those are the giant, economy, CONTRACTOR's cleanup bags,

filled with shredded documents and envelopes and other detrius

from the dreaded TAX day.

I am so incredibly glad to be done with it....

although I took a big chunk out of my home equity account

to write the checks to the IRS and the State department of Revenue.

sigh.

Let's move along now, shall we?

It was a GORGEOUS day out at BEE Happy Farm!

SO lush and green after our recent rain!

It was such odd weather today....there was FROST everywhere when I went to Physical Therapy at 8AM...so I came home and changed into warmer clothes to go fill out my employment paperwork and to go to a job interview with my client....

I was about to BURN UP by 3pm, so I changed again, into a tshirt,

and went out to the Farm to admire the progress.

The Bathroom walls are under a ROOF, and I can't wait to paint all of the building BARN RED

so they will match. I like the patchwork quilt effect going on now...

but can't you just imagine them all Barn Red, with Sunflowers and a split rail fence?

Or is it just me?

How GREEN is your building, really?

Cuz mine is really, REALLY GREEN....

heh.

Nearly everything here is recycled or reused or saved from another project.

Even the GREEN tarp ;)

Okay, now I'm back to the TAXES.

bleh.

Progress continues...

at Bee Happy Farm, and today I remembered the camera

It is so exciting to see the dream become REAL!

All Clear!

I've been rather *anxious* for a few weeks now,

waiting for a dermatology appointment to check on a bleeding mole.

(never search for stuff like this on the innernets unless you want to lose lots of sleep and completely freak yourself out....just sayin'.)

With my Family History of skin cancer and my unfortunate choice of hair and eye color, not to mention my love of the outdoors....

well.

I'm FINE. Lots of blotchy pigmentation, indicating a life well spent (IMHO) at the beach,

and some scar tissue from various forms of road rash ( all those years living dangerously on a bicycle before the advent of safety gear...) but absolutely nothing they even wanted to biopsy.

WOOT!

I had no idea the level of my anxiety until it was OVER.

I got a tube of ointment for my itchy scaly skin (it has a fancy name that sounds like ROSES, so I am okay with THAT) and instructions to wear a sunscreen with a physical barrier rather than chemicals....and of course a HAT and sunglasses.

Glamorous, really.

They did *offer* me some cosmetic surgery options,

which just makes me giggle.

No, thanks.

I've earned the skin I'm in.

Not interested in having my merit badges surgically removed.

I then picked up lunch for the work crew who was racing against the impending stormy weather to get as much framing done as possible on the Bee Happy Farm buildings....

in my haste, I forgot my camera.

sigh.

Perhaps tomorrow when the rain lets up I'll have some more pictures

to share.

RECYCLING 201

My new (old) Potting shed arrived!

Isn't it adorable? Well, it is FUNCTIONAL, that's for sure!

I have an emerging flat of PEPPERS as well as the Heirloom tomatoes,

so I am ready to start building the raised beds....

BEE Happy Farm will have a bathroom building day this weekend...

Hoping the weather will cooperate!

Your local shelter

I spent much of the afternoon at our local APS shelter,

formerly the county *pound*.

There were some INCREDIBLY wonderful dogs and cats,

just waiting for homes that they will probably not live to see.

The statistics are so incredibly sad,

and yet the solution is KNOWN:

1) spay and neuter

2) adopt a shelter pet

3) spread the word

Be part of the solution instead of the problem, won't you?
