Mail call
I've exceeded my quotient for cuteness, so today I'm going to show you what came in the MAIL. I first saw this on Bagatell's blog...and followed her links to the ORDER IT HERE button. I think that was three days ago. When this package came, I thought it was some kind of promotional something and set it on the counter. My curiousity got the best of me and I broke into the box. Now, I'm a sucker for anything that looks like a vintage lunchbox, but when it has KNITTING inside, I'm positively bordering on giddy. Add matching tissue paper, a vintage pattern and some plastic accessories, and well, I'll take pictures of it and post it on the blog so that EVERYBODY can rush right out and order one. You want one, dontcha? It's for a Really Good Cause.....which brings me to the Wish I made this morning. I wished that when Rachael checks her running site on Friday she will have already met, and EXCEEDED her fundraising goal. Go there now, donate generously. PLEASE.
A dream is a wish your heart makes, after all.....

You should post links to the site so we can order.

Links would make it easier. It was tricky to track it down. I think I've found the Red Cross Knit Kit at http://www.pcxhost.com/store/st7/tp8/products/product_detail.jsp?id=12728&unique=1086707825921&sid=2BEE27B4D1DD8749924DFD9A3DA052DFA735A34C
I know, I know. IT's a freakin long link. But I couldn't get it with anything shorter unless you want to go to redcross.whatever it is and track it yourself. And it's not expensive either.

THANK YOU! I was trying to post the link and it seemed *too long* and I just gave up. sigh. I'm still kind of in Cavewoman mode.

I WANT ONE! Thanks for the great enable. It really looks cool and like something that all knitters should have. I'm gonna get one right now.

Oh, I saw that and wanted one myself. I will have to go check it out again.

WOW! You have had one heck of a week. I'm glad to be back and caught up on reading your blog. Sandy the foofy dog is gorgeous. Maybe we can get together at a park and have doggy dates. Chantilly and/or Mattie love play dates with other doggies.
Another WOW! What a truly amazing gift you received that day in the mall.
Talk to you soon.

Both my grandmothers were knitters. And at least one had some red cross pins in her effects. I'd never put the two together, but now that I think about it, I'm sure she knit for the Red Cross. And the Red Cross helped us out after our fire - not a lot, but then we didn't need a lot. A friendly face was a big plus. I'm ordering a kit. And probably another one to send to my mom. :-)
The long link looks kind of silly, but it seemed to be what worked. If I'd been more awake I could have run it through make a shorter link.com. Oh well.
Yarnagogo isn't loading for me now? Rachael's hiding!

And another thing. :-) Sorry, Greta, I'm not trying to take over your comments. :-)
I found a link with more patterns http://www.redcross.org/museum/pdfs/icelandsweater.pdf and I'm thinking that I might prefer to make something like a seaman's scarf with the redcross sock yarn. How does it feel Greta? Is it a nice yarn? I like socks, but I don't know how my attention will hold in a single color.

the color is literally Olive drab...but it is exactly the right color for this project!! I made my Daddy the seaman's scarf, he was in the Navy when I was born, so it was a treasured connection for us! Anything to support the Red Cross....they have always been there through Earthquakes and Forest Fires of my youth...
oh and I think it is a typepad server issue...

Thanks for showing what's inside the box, Greta. How is the yarn? Is it nice and soft?

who is bagtell? I dont see there name on your list of blog links.

Hi Greta:
Here's a little inside info. Because the yarn is no longer available in the original olive drab color, the Jagger yarn was actually hand-dyed for the most authentic color. A shorter link that will take you to the Red Cross store front is RedCrossRemembers.org, and be sure to check out the story. For additional patterns, you can visit the knitting page of the special WWII exhibit at the Red Cross Virtual Museum (www.redcross.org/museum/exhibits/ww2.asp). Glad you're enjoying the knit kit.

I'm on top of the world. One of my research projects that I have put off has been the Red Cross knitting during WWII. My mother was one of knitters and I can still remember the smell of the yarn with the natural oils. Socks were not mothers cup of tea, but sweater vests and scarfs were. So happy to discover this sight. Keep me informed. A second generation knitter.
